Discard High Cards Early

High cards that have no group yet are a ticking 10. Throw them while the rest of the table is still grouping. Keeping a lonely king 'in case' is how 80 happens.

ThrowSingleton JQKA.
KeepTwo-card same-suit high seed.
NeverPick a stray king from open.

Turn one and two

If ace has no 2 and no K, it can go. Same for a queen with no J and no K in that suit.

After a seed appears

Q-K of hearts is a keep. Now you want A or J of hearts, or you wait — but the dump of those two is 20 until grouped, so have a plan.

Reading throws

If everyone throws hearts kings, do not start a hearts king set. Watch discards.
