Every throw is a sentence. A player who throws 5 of spades is less likely to want 4 or 6 of spades from you next. Feeding that suit is how you complete their pure sequence for them.
Negative information
Repeated diamond throws → they are not building diamonds. You can throw diamonds more safely. You should not pick diamonds from open unless it finishes your group.
Positive information
They pick your 8 of clubs from open. Clubs 8 was useful. Stop throwing clubs near 8.
Heads-up vs six
Two seats: you can track almost everything. Six seats: track the player who picks open most. They are closest to a show. Read the discard pile.
