Three of a Kind Set
Three of a kind is the standard set: same rank, three different suits. Indian rummy uses two decks, so a fourth copy can exist. Three is enough to declare with.
Building it
Two 9s of different suits plus a joker is a set. Two 9s of the same suit plus a joker is still broken — throw the duplicate suit.
Do not chase four
Four of a kind looks nice and often wastes turns. Three parks the rank. Use extra turns on the pure sequence.
Face-card sets
Three kings parked is 30 points that no longer dump. That is the main reason to set face cards. Face card points.
